The team behind the MMORPG “RuneScape” has posted their latest development diary entry on what went into making the game’s new rest system.

Run energy has been somewhat of a hurdle for new players in the game. Running out of energy and being forced to run-walk can be an annoyance for the average player. “RuneScape” has made some improvements for those who were frustrated with the former rest system. It is not completely clear in the dev diary how exactly the new rest system works, but it is clear that a lot of careful thought and consideration went into making sure players would be happy with the changes.

I am not a fan of changing little things like this in an MMORPG just to make the average player happy. I know that sometimes changes need to be made to keep people playing the game, but where are the limits? Pretty soon, there will be super fast mounts and portals from one city to the next.

Games like “World of Warcraft” have done this, and though it can be nice to travel so quickly all around the map, I do miss admiring the landscape and actually thinking of the quickest way to get from point A to point B instead of just taking a portal or hopping on a flying mount. Hopefully, just modifying the rest system to make players happy will be as far as they go, because I’d hate to see the same thing happen to “RuneScape” that has happened to “World of Warcraft.”
