With more than 100 real and fictional locations— from the world’s natural and man-made wonders to the marvels of outer space and beyond—The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks is definitely the biggest virtual world for kids to date. And after the long wait of tens of thousands of pre-registered players from over 130 countries, The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks launches for Beta on 1st November.

The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks has been creating a huge buzz within and outside the massive virtual world community that even months before it’s official release, the number of pre-registered players had already surpassed figures. Today, it finally opens for Beta.

The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks Virtual will allow players to travel around the world—through time and space.

Based on a popular children’s story book series by John Bittleston, the virtual world for kids aged 7 to 14 will deliver an experience in which players can travel to more than a hundred locations around the world as they learn about geography, history, culture, countries, inventions and the environment. Along the way, they’ll be able to meet famous historical people, solve puzzles and play tons of enriching games, decorate their own island, wear all kinds of clothes and costumes, acquire cool gadgets and souvenirs and become a legendary virtual traveler.

The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks has an engaging plot coupled with an interesting cast of characters that make the presentation of facts and knowledge appealing to kids. The virtual world is driven by a main quest that will allow players to meet and interact with famous people from the past and get to know their contributions to history. It will also make kids familiar with important artefacts and locations all around the world.

Through several mini-quests, children will experience the inevitable connection they have with the world, whether it be in the past, the present or the future. They will come to learn about current environmental issues like deforestation and climate change, and at a young age, will be enlightened on the valuable part they play in shaping the world’s future and preserving the environment, even in their own little means.

MediaFreaks – an award winning new media and 3d animation studio from Singapore – has specifically and carefully designed the Travels of Wiglington and Wenks virtual world to provide children with factual information for academic enrichment and at the same time, leave enough space for fantasy so they can nurture their imagination and explore further on.

Mediafreaks has collaborated with different virtual world experts to come up with effective ways to assure kids’ safety while exploring the virtual world. Features that include designing their own island and building different houses also aim to foster children’s natural creativity. Although players can only access Wiglington Town during open beta, the features will give players a clear view of what to expect during the full launch come December this year.

Responsible for creating the virtual world and spearheading the project, Chief Executive Producer Aldric Chang says, “We are very encouraged to see children react so positively to The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks. Several fan sites have been set up already and the internet is buzzing with news of Wiglington and Wenks every single day. We are working hard to make The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks the best virtual world ever for kids.”

Commenting on the joint venture, Author John Bittleston said, “I wrote The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks to ensure that learning about and discovering the world was enormous fun for children and I saw the internet as the ideal medium for translating the concept into today’s modern media in an exciting and challenging way. With 187 books potentially still to be written there is no shortage of wonderful treasure and thrilling adventure to look forward to.”

In October, a series of free hidden object games based on The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks was also launched as a curtain raiser to the launch of the virtual world. Carto’s Magic Maps chronicles Wiglington and Wenks’ adventures that would soon lead to the quest in the actual virtual world.
